I have recently completed my PhD in astronomy & astrophysics at the University of Toronto. To learn more about what I studied, click on the "Science" link above! I am currently seeking opportunities to use my critical thinking, analytic, and teaching skills in an exciting non-academic setting.
In my non-research time, I love taking photographs. I first fell in love with photography at age 16, when I took a photography course in high school. Learning the ropes with black and white film and developing my own prints in the darkroom helped develop my awareness of (and appreciation for) composition and exposure. Photography pairs well with one of my other loves: travelling! Natural landscapes and architecture, both old and new, are two of my favourite subjects to photograph.
A selection of my photos can be found on this site under "Photography". You can also keep up-to-date on my latest photographic adventures at www.flickr.com/photos/skeating.
I currently live in Toronto with my partner, Kevin Kuhl, who is pursuing his PhD in philosophy, and our adorable, intelligent, and playful cat, Mira. When not sciencing or photographing, you can often find me running through the streets and paths of the city, training for some race or another!
